Comeback Medvedev Claims First Championship in 882 Days
19 of Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been earned on hard surfaces
A revitalized Medvedev claimed his maiden championship for 882 days with success over Frenchman Moutet in the competition title decider.
Medvedev, a former top-ranked player, has endured a torrid year, achieving just one match at the big events and experiencing a difficult moment at the American major.
Medvedev's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serving in especial - caused him exiting of the top ten and finally parting ways with long-term trainer Gilles Cervara.
Currently collaborating with his coach and his other coach, the tennis star has consistently improved in the past month - climaxing in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over opponent Corentin Moutet.
This represents his maiden title following the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hardcourt since spring of the previous year.
Victory also indicates Medvedev has secured 21 titles at twenty-one different events.
"It's the first time I am participating in a event with my both daughters at once, so to get a trophy is particularly special," stated tennis professional the champion.
"This title is in dedication of my younger daughter Victoria, because the first title I achieved when my older daughter my daughter was born was for her."
Medvedev, the past champion, had failed in his past six finals, featuring in Halle previously this season.
Medvedev's defensive approach and frequent reactions on the playing surface had caused observers to doubt if his ability to perform at the highest level was over.
However the 29-year-old has made changes in the last few weeks, striving to advance forward and perform aggressively, backed up by an improved serving game.
Medvedev fought back from a disadvantage in the first set against the difficult opponent, taking 4 of the last five exchanges to take the lead.
The pair traded breaks in the second set before Moutet, attempting for his first ATP Tour championship, seized the initiative to push for a third set.
He rescued 4 initial break points in a close final set before Medvedev secured a break to 15 to close out the victory.
Appropriately, he earned the win with a shot at the front of the court, with his opponent incapable to handle a volley after over two and a half hours.
